Marcus Cromartie of Equity Sports told Rivals that UNLV told Sluka they'd get him a $100,000 NIL deal. Sluka committed to UNLV in December 2023 but didn't enroll until this fall.

When the payment did not happen, Cromartie and UNLV went back and forth until he was told $3,000 per month "take it or leave it" and that's when it was decided that Sluka would redshirt.

During the fall Sluka will work with a trainer to prepare for spring practice at a new school, which he will enroll at in January.

UNLV's collective, Friends of UNILV, released a statement on the situation.

Sluka announced his intentions in a social media post.

"I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season. I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled. Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program."

Sluka, who transferred from Holy Cross prior to this season, is also UNLV's leading rusher.

This season, Sluka led UNLV to road wins over Houston and Kansas. In their game against Utah Tech, the Rebels won by a score of 72-14.
