Utah DB Malone Mataele announces he's in the portal
Utah defensive back Malone Matele announced on Monday night that he has officially entered the transfer portal.
Since joining the Utes during the 2018 season, Mataele has appeared in 35 games and totaled 43 tackles and one interception throughout his career.
During the 2021 season, Mataele appeared in 11 games, earning five starts while recording 28 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two pass break-ups and an interception.
This past season, he appeared in eight games, earning four starts at nickelback where he tallied six tackles.
Coming out of high school, Mataele was rated a 5.7, three-star prospect. He was the 50th-best player in the state of California and 29th-rated athlete in the nation and also held offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and others.
