Nebraska freshman quarterback Daniel Kaelin is transferring to Virginia, he announced Sunday.

Virginia lost quarterback Anthony Colandrea to the portal, so the position is wide open.

Kaelin, who redshirted at Nebraska, was the No. 7 overall player in Nebraska and No. 39 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2024 by Rivals.com coming out of Bellevue (Neb.) West.

Kaelin originally verbally committed to Missouri on March 13, 2023, and that lasted a little over two months, and he flipped to Nebraska. He also had P4 offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Florida State, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Rutgers and Vanderbilt.

Kaelin was invited to the Elite 11 and went 187-of-319 passing for 2,225 yards, 17 touchdowns and six interceptions his senior year.
