Virginia Tech veteran linebacker Keli Lawson has entered the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder from Stephens City (Va.) Sherando High was an honorable mention All-ACC in 2023, and was No. 19 on Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks” list that year. He had 80 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception and seven passes defended. He set a career-high with 14 tackles against Purdue.

Lawson slipped to 40 tackles, one interception and five passes defended and came off the bench in 10 of 11 games he played in. He had nine tackles against Vanderbilt in the season-opening loss Aug. 31.

Lawson finished his Virginia Tech career with 144 tacks, 11.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a score in 2022.

Lawson was a Rivals.com three-star prospect, who was ranked No. 33 overall in Virginia in the class of 2021. He picked the Hokies over Virginia, and he also had offers from Liberty, Old Dominion and Toledo.

The winter college football transfer portal window is scheduled to open on December 9th, 2024 for 20 days. Additionally, players have a 30-day window to transfer when their head coach leaves. There is also a five-day window for players to transfer after their team has finished postseason play. A 10-day transfer window will open on April 16th as well.
