Right before Christmas, the Washington Huskies picked up a nice player via the transfer portal in Fresno State junior tight end Tre Watson. Watson played three years for the Bulldogs before entering the portal.
During his three years with the Bulldogs, Watson totaled 56 receptions for 592 yards and four touchdowns in 33 games played. His most productive season was this past season in which he had 38 receptions for 378 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games played. He’s done a nice job of getting better each season, really making a leap as a junior.
Watson committed to Fresno State as a 2-star recruit with a 5.4 Rivals rating as part of their 2021 class. He was listed as a wide receiver coming out of high school, but at 6’5”, 245 pounds, he’s built much more like a tight end. It’s no surprise that ended being his position.
For Washington, Watson should definitely add depth to their tight end room. He’s a quality receiving tight end who has developed a nice nose for the end zone. Tight end is a position where you can never have too many of them. The more you have, the better.
As for Watson, he’s getting a chance to play for a national championship contending program. The Huskies made the College Football Playoff and will look to be back in the playoff next season when it expands to 12 teams. Watson is committing to Washington at a really good time and is getting an opportunity that he simply couldn’t have if he stayed at Fresno State.
