Washington State junior quarterback Cameron Ward is no longer in the transfer portal. He has withdrawn and announced that he is declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft instead.
Prior to his withdrawal from the portal and subsequent declaration for the NFL Draft, Ward was ranked the top available transfer among former Pac-12 players. He is an explosive talent. In 12 games this past season, he threw for 3,736 yards, 25 touchdowns and only seven interceptions for a 145.4 rating. He also rushed for 144 yards and eight touchdowns, so he has a good nose for the end zone when he gets in the red area.
When Ward entered the portal, it was known that entering the NFL Draft was a possibility. College teams knew that they had to give him offers that could compete with the NFL. Clearly, the NFL has won out, which bodes well for his draft stock.
Touching quickly on what this means on the transfer portal side of things, any program that was on him will have to look elsewhere to find a quarterback. He could have been a real boon to somebody, so I’m sure a lot of programs are bummed out that he’s making this decision. At this point, all they can do is move on and see if they can find someone else who can address their quarterback needs.
