Washington State sophomore quarterback John Mateer is on the move to Oklahoma.

The 6-foot-1, 219-pounder went 224-of-347 passing for 3,139 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions last year. He also rushed 178 times for 826 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Mateer was able to play against Texas Tech and Washington from P4 leagues, plus faced Boise State, where he threw for 327 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

The Texas Tech game was one game he struggled throwing the ball (115 yards), but he had a season-high 21 carries for 197 yards and one score in a 37-16 win Sept. 7.

Mateer threw for over 300 yards in four different games, and he ran for a touchdown in every game, but the

45-24 loss at Boise State. He threw for a season-high 390 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed for 111 yards and a score in a 54-52 double overtime win Sept. 20.

Washington State ended the season on a three-game losing streak, falling at New Mexico and at Oregon State, and home vs. Wyoming.

Mateer was a Rivals.com two-star prospect coming out of Little Elm (Texas) High in the class of 2022. He had offers from Washington State, Central Arkansas, Columbia, Fordham, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Jacksonville State, New Mexico State and Stephen F. Austin.

Mateer threw for a school-record 2,449 yards and 23 passing touchdowns, and rushed for 847 yards and 15 scores his senior year at Little Elm High.
