Former Notre Dame guard J.J. Starling will transfer to Syracuse giving newly minted head coach Adrian Autry a former McDonald’s All-American for his first portal recruit.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder appeared in 28 games this season, starting 24. Starling averaged 11.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. He made 42.1 percent of his shots.

Starling, who attended Baldwinsville High School (NY) before heading to La Lumiere (IN), was recruited by Syracuse while in high school and Autry was his lead recruiter.

Starling chose Notre Dame over offers from Syracuse, Stanford, Maryland, Alabama, Duke and Miami.
