The transfer portal never stops grinding. UNLV transfer linebacker Jacoby Windmon quickly became one of the hottest names in the portal, and just as quickly he ended his process with a commitment to Michigan State after taking his first official visit to East Lansing.
Recruiting: With all of his other offers coming from FCS programs, Windmon committed to UNLV during his senior season. His FCS offers came from Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana and Southeast Missouri State.
At UNLV: Windmon saw minimal playing time as a true freshman, despite playing in all 12 games, before earning Honorable Mention All-Conference during UNLV's shortened six game season in 2020 after finishing with 39 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks. In his full-length season as a starter in 2021, Windmon exploded with 118 tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Farrell’s Take: Windmon became a tackling machine at the Group of Five level and we've seen how quickly transfer can impact under Mel Tucker. He was very underrecruited out of high school but has grown into a versatile defender who played edge and now is a standout as a standup middle linebacker so he has those pass rushing skills that come naturally. He will be helpful to the pass rush.

IMPACT METER
The Transfer Portal continues to change the way college football programs recruit and manage their rosters so we here at Rivals.com continue to evolve our coverage. Each time a player of note enters the portal, we will examine their potential impact on the college football landscape and assign an impact rating, both when they enter the portal and when they choose a destination. The scale is from 1-10 and the description below explains the scoring scale.
1.1-4.0 — Not a big impact expected, likely a non-starter and down the bench depth player.
4.1- 6.0 — A solid impact can be expected in the right scenario and has the potential to battle for a starting job.
6.1-9.0. — A high impact player who won’t change a program but will certainly be a very good contributor and starter.
9.1- 9.9 — A very high impact player who should start the moment he steps on the field and will change the outlook of a program immediately.
10 — A franchise transfer who has a chance to be an All American and one of the elite players in college football.
