UCLA sophomore running back/tight end Carsen Ryan has announced his intent to enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the Bruins. In 17 games played, Ryan totaled 19 receptions for 287 yards and three touchdowns. This past season was his best season: 12 games, 13 receptions, 205 yards, and three touchdowns for a 15.8 yards per reception average.

Ryan was listed as a tight end out of high school while UCLA has him listed as a running back. A bit strange because he didn’t log any rushing yards. So, I think it’s more accurate to list him as a running back/tight end as a result.

Ryan committed to UCLA as a 4-star recruit with a 5.8 Rivals rating out of Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. He was part of the 2022 recruiting class. Prior to committing to UCLA, Ryan also held offers from Arkansas, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon State, San Diego State, TCU, Tennessee, Utah State, Colorado State, Virginia, Washington, and New Mexico. One thing to look for will be whether or not he decides to come home and play for either BYU or Utah State. Or maybe Utah will show some interest once he hits the portal.

At 6’4”, 255 pounds, Ryan has good size and when you combine that with how he was rated out of high school, you know there’s some talent there. It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up and whether or not a change of scenery will do him good.
