Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman transferring to Notre Dame

Former Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman has committed to Notre Dame Thursday. He has one season of eligibility remaining. Hartman was the No. 1 available QB in the Rivals Transfer Rankings.

The longtime Wake Forest starter holds the Atlantic Coast Conference record for career touchdown passes (110) and ranks second in ACC history with 12,967 career passing yards. Hartman completed a career-best 63 percent of his passes this season for 3,701 yards and 38 touchdowns. Hartman was also named the Most Valuable Player of the 2022 Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl. His second-straight bowl game MVP honor.

The 2023 season will be Hartman’s sixth season of college football – he only played in four games in 2019 and received an extra season because of the COVID pandemic. Hartman appeared in at least four games in all five of his seasons at Wake Forest and started 26 games over the last two seasons for the Demon Deacons. Hartman becomes the favorite to be the Irish’s QB1 next season. Tyler Buchner led No. 21 Notre Dame to a comeback victory over No. 19 South Carolina in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, accounting for five touchdowns to overcome throwing two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns, earning Most Valuable Player honors. Drew Pyne, who started 10 games at QB for Notre Dame already announced that he will transfer to Arizona State.
